Attendance & Discipline

Attendance

Two ways to take attendance:

  • Manual — a teacher marks a class roster present/absent/late from the dashboard, same as a paper register.
  • Facial recognition kiosk — a tablet or shared device at the gate runs real, on-device face detection and matching (no camera frame is ever sent to a server — matching happens entirely in the browser). A student walks up, the kiosk matches their face against enrolled templates, and attendance is logged automatically. See Facial Attendance for how enrollment and matching actually work.

An absence can trigger an automatic guardian notification (see Communications and Getting Your API Keys for SMS/WhatsApp setup).

Discipline & welfare

Incident logging (with severity and sanction tracking), welfare consent records, and counselling notes. Counselling notes are access-gated and logged separately from ordinary incidents — every individual read of a counselling note is appended to an access log, and writes require guardian consent already on file. Aggregate discipline views (counts, trends) are available without that gate; individual counselling records are not.

Guardian notification on a discipline incident is best-effort: if the notification channel isn’t configured or fails, the incident is still recorded — a school’s disciplinary record never depends on a working SMS provider.
